An organic compound on analysis was found to contain 0.032% of sulphur

An organic compound on analysis was found to contain 0.032% of sulphur. If its molecule contain two sulphur atoms, then the molecular mass of the compound will be :

a) 200

b) 2000

c) 100000

d) 200000

The right answer is d) 200000.

Solution :

% of element (sulphur) = no. of atoms * Atomic wt. * 100 / mol. wt. of compound

therefore, Mw (mol. wt. of compound) = 2 * 32 * 100 / 0.032 = 200000.
