Which board to choose in grade XI (PCB), CBSE or ICSE?

Asking this for my niece - Which board is better in grade XI, CBSE or ICSE? She is interested in medical stream and wants to prepare for NEET.

Ideally when preparing for NEET and taking coaching, the board you choose won’t matter much whether it’s CBSE or ICSE. NEET syllabus covers most of the class 11 and 12 syllabus. The only difference is the type and level of questions asked in school board exams and NEET.

The difference of syllabus in CBSE and ICSE is diminishing as CISCE has realigned Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology syllabus of class 11 and 12 with that of the CBSE.

NCERT books of class XI and XII are highly recommended for the preparation of medical entrance examinations like NEET and AIIMS.

Considering selection in NEET as the criteria for deciding which board is better, may not be the right way to go. There are pros and cons of both CBSE and ICSE.

Not at all. As I said earlier, NEET syllabus covers almost all class 12 concepts and topics. The student will be prepared well for board exams when studying for NEET. She just need to manage time well for scoring good marks in both NEET and board exams.

One month or few days before the board exams (depending on the preparation level), it’s recommended to solve sample papers of the board to practice subjective questions and answers.
